The 49ers are currently planning on leaving Candlestick Point for a new stadium in either Santa Clara or Hunters Point, at a cost of over one billion dollars to local citizens and the fans through taxes, bonds, expensive tickets and seat licenses. Investing massive resources in a new single-team, football-only professional stadium, during economic and climatic instability, is a bad idea for fans, the community and for our environment.
Todd Jersey Architecture proposes to re-imagine Candlestick Park as a top notch multi-purpose venue that will be an exciting, updated home for the team and cost the fans or citizens nothing by coupling the stadium with other complimentary uses and venues. Candlestick Point is an ideal location for a waterfront eco-hotel and convention center. Our plan calls for these additions to wrap around the stadium, upgrading its exterior appearance and allowing hotel guests to watch the game from suites above the stadium. We also propose a large convention center at the playing field level. The hotel and convention guests will use the existing parking lot during non-football days. Integrating these uses into the stadium will create a more dynamic place for fans than a stand-alone stadium.
