Sinskey Residence, Napa, CA

Although all new construction, this home-which sits on the site of an old farmstead and fits into an historic agricultural landscape-was made to resemble an old western barn. To accomplish this effect, recycled wood was used throughout the house, and the ceiling-like the roof-is corrugated steel, to mimic the look of a barn ceiling. Antique bath fixtures and historic moldings and trims were brought in, but no other residential trim details were used. Instead, we used flush trim details and designed the siding to be flush with the concrete foundation. Finally, the large and small windows and doors were composed to create drama and interest and evoke the feeling of an old barn.
