KENWOOD INN

This project included a spa building and two structures for guest rooms. The design of these buildings integrated seamlessly with the existing hotel structures while incorporating the latest sustainable building techniques including insulated concrete forms (ICF’s) which create strong, thick and well insulated walls. This was one of the first and only commercial uses of ICF’s in the Bay Area. Rastra insulated concrete forming system uses recycled Styrofoam that is formed into 10-inch-thick insulating blocks that then acts as molds for structural concrete. The blocks are left in place where they create a strong, thick, well-insulated exterior wall. We then plastered the walls inside and outside, producing the look and texture of the Old World masonry buildings that inspired the Inn's original architecture.
