We are seeking an intermediate level Architect with five or more years of experience to join our team. Under supervision of the Design Principal, this position in a small, busy studio provides experience across the entire project lifecycle, from early design to final construction. Located in the vibrant Gilman District of Berkeley, our studio supports quality of working life. While excellence in work product is asked of everyone, the environment is casual and supportive.
This position manages projects, including producing architectural documents in the schematic, design development and construction document phases of a project, while implementing the company's architectural procedures, standards and quality expectations. This position will quickly generate design options as well as translate Principal’s vision into Revit models. Other responsibilities include researching municipal permit submittal requirements, preparing submittal documents and coordinating the work of consultants, keeping the Principal and Sr. Project Manager informed at all stages. This position will have day-to-day client facing and other project member management responsibilities. Success entails delivering projects against the agreed upon design intent and the three pillars of Todd Jersey Architecture projects - sustainability, cost-efficiency and beauty.
Specific responsibilities include:
Work with Principal on design of projects;
Manage the production, organization, coordination, thoroughness, and accuracy of all documents;
Communicate with and coordinate the efforts of project team members, clients, consultants, contractors and agency officials;
Track project time versus budget and schedule, anticipate required staff resources and organize workflow;
Create and/or work with the project team to produce presentation materials;
Research and specify materials, products and systems;
Attend job site meetings, issue supplemental instructions and RFI responses, process submittals and drawing reviews during Construction Administration.
Requirements
Accredited bachelors or masters degree in architecture;
Minimum of five years related professional experience, preferably including design and detailing experience on residential projects;
Five years of construction document experience or technical knowledge of wood-frame construction or desire to learn;
Demonstrated graphic skills and proficiency in Revit, AutoCad, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and Sketch-up;
Excellent verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
Salary range $70,000+

Under supervision of the Design Principal, this position in a small, busy studio provides experience across the entire project lifecycle, from early design to final construction. Located in the vibrant Gilman District of Berkeley, our studio supports quality of working life. While excellence in work product is asked of everyone, the environment is casual and supportive.
This position produces architectural documents (in the schematic, design development and construction document phases of a project), meeting project deadlines while implementing the company's architectural procedures, standards and quality expectations. The position is also responsible for researching municipal permit submittal requirements, preparing submittal documents and coordinating the work of consultants, keeping the Principal and senior staff informed at all stages. Success entails delivering projects against the agreed upon design intent and the three pillars of Todd Jersey Architecture projects - sustainability, cost-efficiency and beauty - as well as the contract deliverables.
Specific responsibilities include:
Develops concepts according to parameters defined by Design Principal;
Produces construction documents in Revit, including plans, sections and details;
Researches codes and materials;
Researches pre-application, planning, building and other submittal requirements for all phases of the project and prepares the drawing set, applications and other elements in support of those requirements;
Coordinates the work of consultants such as the structural engineer and Title 24 consultant;
Maintains ongoing communication with the Design Principal to understand any project changes, design issues or time/budget constraints that may impact initial assignment;
Assists the Design Principal and Sr. Project Manager with schedules and time estimates;
Interacts and communicates effectively and professionally with other TJA team members;
Assures execution of and assists with quality control activities for architectural elements on a project;
Proactively keeps Design Principal and senior staff informed of progress; uses past knowledge and experience to enhance the quality of the product; recognizes problem issues and communicates impact, seeking clarity when necessary.
Requirements
Accredited degree in architecture;
Two or more years of related professional experience, preferably including design and detailing experience on residential projects;
Demonstrated graphic skills and proficiency in AutoCad, Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and Sketch-up;
Excellent verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
